QUESTIONS ABOUT BUILDING WEBSITES
How much does a website cost?
It depends. Basic custom sites with 5 to 7 pages start at around $2500. Once we start adding more pages and special features, the price goes up. The average price for a 10 to 15 page fully customized business website is about $5000.
How long does it take to build a website?
Website projects generally take anywhere from 8 to 12 weeks from start to finish. Some website projects take longer and some take less, depending on the complexity of your project.
Your input is important and we need to receive all the information requested from you in a timely manner in order to keep the project moving along. This will include passwords for your accounts, content for your website, and feedback on revisions.
How do we get started?
We start with a phone call to introduce ourselves and get to know you and your business. If you already have a website and/or a domain name, we’ll need to talk about that too, to determine if your assets are currently located in a secure and reliable location. We will also discuss your budget, how much content you have (text/photos/videos/etc) and whether you are interested in editing your new website yourself.
Will you meet with me in person?
Our client meetings are done via the phone. This typically results in a more productive meeting in a shorter space of time. We schedule an introductory phone call before the start of every project. After that, most of our communications are completed via email.
Do you only serve customers in Airdrie?
Although many of our clients are based in Airdrie, we also have customers in Calgary, Crossfield, Madden, Olds, Sundre, and other communities across Alberta.
What items do you need from me to get started on my project?
Before we can start your project, we will need to get some information from you. This is includes logins for any website accounts, a copy of your logo in a high-resolution format, a list of pages, and any photos or videos that you would like to use on your site. How do I send large image files for my project?
Most files can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org but if you are sending large image files and/or a group of photos, it may be easier to use a file transfer service. WeTransfer.com is our favorite. It’s free, it’s easy to use, and you can send up to 2 GB of files. You can upload a single file, such as a photo or a copy of your logo. Or you can upload multiple files at once. For example, a collection of photos for your website gallery.
Who provides the content for my website?
You do. Nobody knows your business better than you. While our job is to make your website as great looking and functional as possible, we will need you to provide all the information necessary to create your new website. If you don’t have the content ready or just don’t have the time to put it all together, we also offer editing and content writing services and on-site photography and video services.
Do I need a blog page?
Not necessarily. But it’s an easy way to let your customers know what’s going on in your business and helps improve your SEO ranking.

What is web hosting?
Website hosting is a place for your website on the internet. When you signup for hosting services, you are are renting a space on a host computer, in a data center that serves files to the internet.
A good analogy for website hosting is hotel accommodations. You can get shared hosting, which is like a cheap motel room with an uncomfortable bed, in a less than desirable neighborhood. It works but it’s not the greatest place to be. Or you can pay a little more and get premium hosting, a clean and comfortable room in a better hotel with upgraded amenities including room service and 24-hour security.
Where should I host my website?
We can host the website for you on our premium web server. Or you can host the site independently, with the company of your choice. If you host your site with Airdrie Web Design, the hosting fees are included as part of the Website Care Plan. If you choose to host your website in your own account, you will be responsible for any hosting fees associated with your account.
QUESTIONS ABOUT WEBSITE CARE PLANS
What is a Website Care Plan and why do I need one?
Just like routine maintenance for your home or vehicle, it’s important to provide ongoing care for your website to ensure it continues to work properly. Websites that are serviced on a regular basis load faster and perform better with less downtime, are more likely to maintain their Google ranking, and less likely to get hacked.
If the WordPress software is not kept up-to-date, your website may not continue to function as expected, and/or your site may become vulnerable to malware. For this reason, having a trained WordPress specialist on hand to adjust the software settings, and to update, rollback and replace plugins, is important to maintain the optimal performance of your website. Is the Website Care Plan required when I host my website on your server?
Yes, if your website is hosted on our web server, the Website Care Plan is required. The maintenance plan is required to prevent your site from being hacked or injected with malware. If your site gets hacked, the virus can spread to the other sites on our server.
Can I cancel my Website Care Plan?
Yes, you can cancel your plan anytime after the first 90 days. We ask that you give us 30 days notice so we can complete our last update of the website, supply you with a full backup, and remove our administrator credentials.
If you cancel your service plan, your site will be moved to a new web hosting account and you will be responsible for any fees associated with this account. You may also need to purchase your own license(s) for any premium software or plugins used on your website.
What is the difference between PIPEDA and PIPA?
The Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) is a privacy law that protects the Personally Identifiable Information (PII) of Canadians. The law achieves this goal by prescribing how PII can be collected, used and disclosed via the ten PIPEDA Fair Information Principles.
Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) requires every organization to designate an individual to be responsible for the organization’s compliance with the Act. The Act also requires organizations to develop and follow reasonable personal information protection policies and practices to enable them to comply with the Act.
If you are doing business within Alberta, the PIPA guidelines are applicable. However, if you are selling your products and services to customers who are located in other provinces or jurisdictions, then we recommend that you follow the PIPEDA guidelines.

How do I contact you if I have a problem?
Are you able to help me with content updates and other website requests?
Yes, we are able to help with a variety of website service requests, such as adding or updating pages, adding new images or videos, or other new features such as a photo gallery or a reviews section. Your site can also be upgraded to accept credit card payments.
How do you charge for your services?
Our services can be a purchased as a one-time update at our hourly rates, or as part of an ongoing service plan.
Please Note: If you are not subscribed to a Website Care Plan, there will be an additional fee to do a Website Maintenance Check, which includes updating the software, checking for any technical issues, and taking a full backup of your site. There will also be a short delay in scheduling your request, while the maintenance work is completed.
