NEWSLETTER: September 2025
This issue of our newsletter is dedicated to Domain Names
My goal for 2026 is to ensure that my customers have access to their website assets and know how to manage them. In addition to your domain name registration, this includes the website itself plus the website hosting and email services.
What we’re doing to faciliate ownership of your domain
I am happy to report that we have successfully moved all the domain names that were in our custody into new domain registrar accounts. We will be maintaining joint custody of these accounts so we can facilitate the transfer of ownership to your business.
If you’re not sure where your domain name is registered, please contact me. I have everything documented and can tell you exactly where your domain name is registered, when it expires, and what services are connected to it.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DOMAIN NAMES
What is a domain name?
When you register a domain name, you get exclusive rights to that specific web address. As long as you renew the domain on an ongoing basis, it cannot be used by anyone else. This provides security and permanence for your online presence. Click here to find out more about domain names and why they are so important.
Why it’s important to have custody of your own domain name
Allowing your web designer (or your IT support person) to have custody of your domain name can pose potential risks and challenges. Click here to find out why it’s best to maintain control of your domain name yourself.
What are DNS records and how do they work?
Your domain name is the hub that ties together all your online services using special codes called DNS records. The DNS records link your domain name to different services, such as website hosting and email. Click here to find out more about DNS records.
Tips for managing your own domain name

SCAM ALERT: Domain Registry of Canada
Have you received a Domain Name Expiration Notice in the mail? This is a ‘lettermail scam’ that comes in an official-looking brown envelope in the mail with a warning that your domain name is about to expire. This scam has been going on for many years. Do not reply and do not send them any money!
If your domain name is registered with Airdrie Web Design Ltd. then it is safe. We will always maintain strict security protocols for domain names in our custody. If your domain name is held at GoDaddy, HostGator, or another registrar, or if you are not sure if the message is legit, send me a copy and I will be happy to take a look.
Here is a picture of the Domain Name Registration lettermail scam. The example below is from 2009 however the current version looks very similar. More info about this scam here: https://blog.webnames.ca/potential-scam-alert-domain-expiration-notices-from-domain-registry/
