Thinking about sending a newsletter to your customers?
If you are sending commercial electronic messages in Canada, you need to comply with three main requirements:
- obtain consent
- provide identification information
- and provide an unsubscribe mechanism
The best way to start is by signing up for an electronic mailing service like MailChimp, Constant Contact, or Active Campaign. These services enable people interested in your work or products to subscribe and unsubscribe to your email marketing list.
We recommend the MailChimp service which follows Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation and provides an easy way to manage your contacts and your campaigns. MailChimp helps you design email newsletters, share them on social networks, integrate with services you already use, and track your results.
If you are unsure about whether you have proper consent to send messages to your contacts, take a look at the infographic below and ask yourself the following questions:
- Who are you sending the messages to?
- What type of messages are you sending?
- Have you included the required information?
